I've always had a conflicted relationship with Ben Harper. Some of his stuff, I absolutely do not like but then he goes off and does his blues thing and I dig it. He's always been the guy that, when talking about music with people that aren't necessarily SUPER into music (like us, we're sick), gets brought up and about how much they love him. As if he is supposed to bring legitimacy to their Top 40 appetite. Does this make sense? Do we all know people like this? Either way around, this has always sort of knocked him down a peg in my book. I know it's not right/fair/just but that's how it is.
Anyways, the stuff he is doing with legendary bluesman (and inspiration for Dan Akroyd's character in Blues Brothers) Charlie Musselwhite is all top notch stuff. It's a bare, sparse version of the blues and I just so happened to like that very much. Support Ben and Charlie, support WXPN (they're pretty awesome).
